week 7-Distance Learning

Distance learning is a way of getting an education without actually physically attending school or classes. While there are benefits of distance learning ,there are some disadvantages too. Some of the benefits are : the flexibiltiy and freedom of working in the comfort in our own home, not having any working hours. Some disadvantages are that there can be distractions at home therefore it can be hard to work and meet deadlines.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are also working from home or it would not be wrong to say we are experiencing distance learning. So far I have enjoyed the experience as we all get our lectures online using the Microsoft teams app. One of the best things I noticed about this is that the tutors.. can record the sessions and students can access it easily if they missed the session earlier or if they want to go back and get a better understanding of something that was said. During the session we also played a distance learning kahoot was an incredible opportunity to learn and play the game from the comfort of our own home.

To reflect back on this session I will you the Rolf et al reflection model

What?- initially when the session started i was abit nervous because it was the first time i had done distance learning

So what? played a game of kahoot to ease off the nerves and have fun

Now what? when the session came to an end, I was happy because I noticed the session was recorded which meant we can go back to it if we missed out any information.

week 6-ICT outside the classroom

This is about how to use Technology outside. Mixing technology which has a typical use indoors and the outdoors so that it gets kids creating and being imaginative with IT and outdoors. Learning outside the classroom can be beneficial for children as it helps with their holistic development. It will build their social and physical skills, it will help build their confidence and self esteem. It will also improve their knowledge and understanding if they are able to actually physically perform a task, as opposed to just listening to the teachers.

As part of this module in (semester 1) we also had the pleasure of learning outside the classroom. For this we went to Nell Bank. This was a wonderful experience as it allowed us to explore the educational opportunities outside. We worked in teams for different activities and the overall experience was lovely as it broke up from the traditional way of learning indoors in a classroom. We also used different forms of technology, used maps (GPS) used the camera to take pictures and made videos.

In this session I learnt that we don’t just have to be sat inside a classroom to use can be done outdoors too and we learnt the use of different devices, such as camcorder ,an iPad (to make notes)

week 5 – Digital literacy

Digital literacy is the ability to show understanding on how to use technology including cameras, computers and multimedia. It also means to be able to write content digitally, for example writing emails, using audio devices, writing blogs and tweets (Heitin, 2016).Some of the benefits of digital literacy are that it is easy to gain information and it helps to boost children’s engagement and concentration levels in the classroom. In today’s digital age, it is very important to be “digitally literate” because it creates new ways to teach and learn. (morris, 2018)

In this session we learnt the importance of digital literacy, as a student I knew about how to use word documents, and PowerPoints, but there were many aspects of this which I did not know about and learnt them in class during session for example I did not know that I can use the reference tab at the top of word document to do my references. I also did not know how to use excel, but when taught in class I figured out that it was easy to work out how to make spreadsheets. This is a really useful tool for me as I can plan my weekly budget and record income and expenditures.

To reflect on this session, I used the Rolf et al reflection model

What? (problem)- did not know how to use refrence tab in word document and excel

So what? (what actions were taken to solve the problem?) – I asked the teachers to show me how to use excel

Now what? (goal achieved) I was able to learn and put in practise the use of word and excel

week 4- Presentations

Presenting information clearly and effectively is a key skill in getting your message across. But not everyone finds this easy, some people find it challenging to stand infront of a group of people and talk. But when practised properly it can become very easy and help boost confidence.

In this session we all had to do an individual presentation on the importance of E safety. We had To present a professional presentation incorporating advanced features such as; sound, video, animation, action buttons, hyperlinks and master slides.

In my presentation I used images and video links to grab the audiences attention. I also walked around the classroom and asked questions to my peers, this was a good step to keep the audiences engaged and check their listening skills.

To reflect back on this session, I would use the Schon reflective model (1991)

Reflection in action (at the time the event is happening) when the presentation started, initially I was nervous, overwhelmed and not confident because I had not presented individually In front a group of people before

Reflection on action (after the event) as the presentation progressed, I became confident and started engaging with the audiences, I was happy because this experience helped to boost my confidence.

week 3 using IT for academic writing

It is important to do the correct research, reference and proofread the work when it comes to academic writing. Research is not just important for writing essays but it also helps individuals in getting exposure that is needed for professional life, it also helps to find out more about the topic that is being written.

Referencing is important because it allows you to acknowledge the contribution of other writers and researchers in your work. It is also important because it is a way to provide evidence to support the ideas a person shares in their writing.

Proofreading is important because it eliminates any grammatical or spelling errors

In this session we learnt how to reference using word document ,we also learnt to use the online library to do research. i enjoyed this session because it was useful, I had not used word to do referencing before .but after this session i found it easier to just do the referencing using word document.

week 2 Blogging

Blogging is an essential part of today’s digital world. It has a lot of benefits such as, it gives opportunities to express our self and share things which a person is passionate about .It also helps to improve our writing skills, creates memories and helps us to reflective back and improve ourselves and eventually learn how to make money online and be our own boss.

When I started this module, I had no idea about what blogging is really about. we learnt about blogging and started to set up our own blog post on wordpress. As a class we started the session with a really fun activity playing kahoot. Kahoot is an online programme which allows us to test our knowledge and skills. It is a series of questions with between two to four multiple-choice answers to choose from. You can add engaging images to your quiz question

Reflecting back to this session, I want to use Schon model (1991) I can safely say that I enjoyed and learnt a lot. I feel happy about blogging and I feel that I may start my own personal blog too

Reflection in action (at the time when the event is happening) it was fun and interactive

Reflection on action (after the event) – a good session built up on my knowledge about blogging and started to set up my own blog

week 1 E-safety

In the first session we learnt about E- safety in schools and the teacher’s roles and responsibilities towards children’s safety. If used well, internet is a safe, fun and informative place. However it is important to be vigilant of fraud where people can pretend to be something that they are not. Children could be exposed to cyber bullying and emotional abuse. Reflection is a great way of learning. To reflect on this session I used the Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle.

Feelings: I felt informed after this session because there were a lot of aspects about children’s safety which I did not know about I

Description: Introduction to E- safety

Analysis: Young children should be taught the importance of E safety

Action plan: I would explain the dangers and importance of the internet.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
